When it comes to heading on holiday, you can often feel like you have to see some sun. But that doesn’t always have to be the case. If you want to relax, enjoy your surroundings, and still allow your brain to switch off, you can do all that and more on a city break. You don’t have to be lead out on a sun lounger to de-stress, cities can have a great calming effect too. So, if you feel like treating yourself to a bit of a break this year, why not think about seeing a city? And if you need a little more tempting, here are five cities that you should definitely consider.
First up is London. London is a great location for a city break, no matter what you want to get out of it. This beautiful capital city is a cultural fusion and has a lot to offer. Not only can you take in some of the great British sites like Big Ben and the Houses of Parliament, but you have a lot of culture available too. Head out to Oxford Street and shop until you drop, or see a show in the West End. And when it comes to food, you can opt to have it fine or fast because London has it all.
A little further afield is Paris. This stunning city was made for romance, but it also comes with culture in abundance too. If you’ve seen the Eiffel Tower and you’ve been to the Louvre, don’t panic, the Luxembourg gardens are just waiting to be explored, and there are so many cool neighbourhoods to discover too. Find the perfect hotel in the right Arrondissement and your trip will be complete.
Then there’s always Rome to consider. This European city is known for its history and its food. When you’re in Rome, you’ll always eat well. Whether you’re sipping the finest prosecco or walking with a slice of pizza in your hand, it’s an experience not to be missed. There’s also the Vatican to see and the Colosseum, and you’ll even find that just wandering the streets is enough to make you smile.
Heading out East, another option would be Shanghai. Tucked on the east coast of China, it’s the county’s biggest city, and it’s packed to the brim with culture. Once you’ve found the perfect hotel in Shanghai, you then need to work through a hot hit-list. Be sure to see the waterfront promenade, Sprawling Yu Garden, as well as the Oriental Pearl TV Tower to fully indulge in some of the best attractions this city has to show you.
Or if you fancy going west, you could head to LA. Los Angeles can offer you that little bit of sun that you still secretly want, as well as the best of city life. You’ve got the incredible Hollywood Sign to see, along with Universal and Warner Bros studios, as well as the walk of fame. With a great selection of American eats, you’ll definitely be able to emerge yourself into a new culture when you head out west.
