Definitely Cannot Do This

I was so sure I could do the 28 Day Fat Shredder programme from Darin Classen Fitness. Convinced. I knew it wouldn’t be easy, but I definitely thought I could do it.
The exercise was easy for me. I managed to make it work. The nutrition plan though. That was something I couldn’t handle. It was too much at once and too much of a lifestyle change. It was never going to be sustainable. I did the Operation Transformation programme in work which saw me make a few changes to my diet but that made all the difference. It is a pity I fell off as I WAS starting to see results. But not to worry. 
My plan now is to take some of the nutritional advice I received on board and adapt it to my lifestyle and needs. In line with this I am going to try out one of Darin’s other plans, or continue to use the 28 day fitness plan, it was one that really suited me.
Expect an update on the fitness plan I will use moving forward later this week!
In the meantime I had a sneak peek at the newest Flye Fit gym today. It’s based on the South Circular Road and is perfect for anyone living or working that side of town, particularly the Rathmines/Ranelagh areas. While it will be rare I use the SCR branch, due to Coolock being just next door to my house, it will be handy for me if I have plans in town, such as brunch, or just want a change of scene on the weekend.
The gym is based in the Old Garda Club in a listed building. The listed status of the building has note hampered them at all. The place looks great, it’s all bright and airy, with a ridiculously high ceiling. Sure there is even a fire place.
What I love most about Flye Fit is it is cheap and affordable, while also being ridiculously self service. €32 a month to use all the gyms. All I need is for Dundrum to open and that will be the icing on the cake. I will be able to work out and buy my comics at once!

I’m Not Sure I Can Do This

If you follow me on instagram you will know I am doing a 28 day ‘fat shredder’ programme with Darin Classen Fitness. Darin is a personal trainer with a fabulous online facility. The 28 day programme is one I chose because it helps you lose a stone/drop a dress size in 28 days, and ultimately I want to lose a few stone and drop a few sizes so this seemed like the programme most suited to my needs. I spoke to Darin about this and he agreed, giving me tips for getting started.
Before I let you know how I have been getting on the past few days let’s get into the horrible part… The part where I post my weight and measurements online. I don’t have to do this but I am using it as a motivation tool. I am posting my before now so that I revel in my satisfaction when I have after figures with a noticeable difference to post up at the end.

My Weight: 13 stone approx (this was measured on the scales in the gym which I couldn’t really work so I will make sure to measure my after figure on the same scales)
Right bicep relaxed: 31cm
Right bicep contracted: 33cm
High waist (bust): 87cm
Low waist (belly button): 100cm
Hips (bum/hip line): 104cm
Right thigh (widest): 60 cm
Push up (until failure): 16
Burpees (60 sec): 13
Crunches (60 sec): 23
Mountain Climbers (60 sec): failed at 71
2km walk/run: I have noted 90 mins but I think it should have read 19 minutes for a 2km walk
I will keep my recap of my first few days short and sweet. They were uneventful bar me falling at the first hurdle. Literally day one. For me changing my eating habits is hard and going Ketogenic was such a culture change. I went to the gym, did day 1 of the workout and then milled into the crisps and chocolate in my room. The weekend saw no improvement either.
But today I tried again and I think my day went much better. I put a little bit of sauce on my dinner and had one bit of chocolate. Which for me is a big achievement. Hopefully tomorrow will be even better again. 
The next few weeks will be hard. I have a few things on which I don’t want to miss out on, but I am allowing myself those as cheat days provided I am strict every other day. I know the meal plan doesn’t really allow for cheat days but I need to allow myself those two events to stay sane. I might not get the full results I could if I was more strict, but I have to do me. 
I am going to leave it at that for now! I will check back in later in the week after I have given this a bit more of a shot.

Getting Beach Body Ready In Time For Summer

The sun is shining once again, and it finally seems possible to believe that summer is on the horizon. That means that it’s almost time to pack away your winter coats and dig out your dresses! Holiday season will soon be upon us, and with it brings hotter days… and maybe even a vacation or two?
Now is a great time to start readying your body for the summer months. Once you put on your favourite bikini, you’ll want to hit the pool or the beach with full confidence. Here is a handful of ways to get yourself beach ready and bursting with pride in your body.

Hire a personal trainer
Now, you could just hit the gym. If you have previous experience in getting fit or are great at motivating yourself, this might be enough. However, if this is not the case, a personal trainer might be a better bet. This is because together you can make a plan to have you happy with your body in a set amount of time. If you’ve already booked your flights, or know exactly when you can take off work, you can sit down together first and arrange a schedule. Plus, his or her knowledge can mean that you can focus on the parts of your body you most want to work on. So, if you want to firm up your stomach and tone up your legs, the trainer can direct you straight towards the best exercises. You may find that getting fit with a personal trainer is significantly faster, easier and more effective than going it alone.

Consider breast augmentation
There are lots of myths and non-facts out there about female breast augmentation surgery. Be wise, and do the research for yourself. You’ll discover the realities, not the scaremongering. Breast augmentation can do incredible things for a woman’s confidence. If you have always been self-conscious of the size of your breasts, it might be something you want to consider. And when could be a better time than in advance of the season you’re likely to have them more on display than usual!

Semi permanent makeup
Do you love to wear makeup while on the beach or by the pool, but hate how it gets smeared and rubbed off? Then semi-permanent makeup could be the thing for you! Thanks to ever-developing methods and technology, there are now all sorts of different treatments. Semi-permanent eyebrows are becoming ever-more popular, and for good reason. While they are tattoos, they are meant to be very natural looking. Once your course of treatment is done, the idea is that they look like natural, groomed eyebrows.

Or, for something that requires a little less commitment, how about eyelash extension. You’ll have to sit still for a couple of hours. However, the results can last up to a month! This makes them great for a two-week holiday on the beach. You can leave them bare, or top them up with a waterproof mascara. Be warned though; they’re pretty addictive!

The Gym

Hey Guys!!
I have finally found time to sit down and write a new post for you all. This post is actually about the reason I’ve had no time to post… THE GYM.
For those of you who follow me on social media you know full well I have been going to the gym and eating differently in an attempt to lose weight.
I have never made any attempt to hide the fact that I want to lose weight and get slim, fit and healthy. I danced for 13 years, ballet and such, and used to be very, VERY thin. While a lot of people may think that I am still slim, in my head I am huge compared to what I was, there are curves and pudge where there used to be flat. This teamed with googling the ideal weight for my height and not being able to get clothes to fit properly has really led to me getting down. I found that I was between three and four stone overweight for my height. I don’t normally think in numbers but this is one that has definitely stuck with me.
I was chatting to my friend Paul one day about joining the gym and he told me he was about to join FLYEfit. FLYEfit is a low cost gym based in Dublin. It is €29 a month for membership to one of their gyms or €32 for access to all their gyms. As well as being 24 hour access gyms your membership is self service meaning you can amend it whenever you like.
I have been in the gym almost 8 weeks now and I must admit in the first few weeks I just did the programme that was given to me in my introductory session and half assed eating healthy. I didn’t see any results however, so I decided to take a plunge I was apprehensive about and talk to a personal trainer. 
I chose this beast.

Meet Niall. Niall is the man in charge of getting me all nice and toned. He’s a brave lad.
What drew me to Niall was his poster in the girls changing rooms. He does a 12 week to LBD training programme which of course appeals to any woman. However I’d seen him around the gym and he seemed friendly and not TOO intimidating.
Niall has been brilliant from the start. He got me to send him an email chatting about what I wanted to get out of this and immediately he set me on the right track. He fired me over a pack with shopping lists, meal plans and recipes and let me loose. While providing me with an introductory workout, I have also had two full on Personal Training sessions with Niall, this lad has me benchpressing, who’d have thought it. 
One thing I love about training with Niall is his enthusiasm for the whole thing, he is always in a top mood and ready to get into it and give it his all. He will always stop to talk to you and see how you are getting on and is always at the end of a text. One day I was feeling so unmotivated that I sent Niall an email telling him I was just feeling off. He sent me a nice email back perking me up and encouraging me to keep it up and not to let a bad day get me down. Later that night at the gym he got me to go to two classes he was running and after I was in the complete opposite mood. I was so pumped and happy and could hardly believe that two hours before I had been so down in the dumps. 
We have even added his boxing class to my weekly workout so that I can vent, and work out the oul upper body. Did I mention Niall sends me my workout every day? Nothing better than having someone actually put thought into what they get you to do day to day, rather than just sending you off with a piece of paper. No two work outs have ever been the same.
I’ve set myself the goal of December 6th, just in time for my work party but I don’t know if I will be 100% satisfied with my results by then. It can get quite hard to be optimistic when you don’t see results straight away. Although people who don’t see me too often have said they definitely notice a difference in me. If I don’t achieve my goal by December I will still keep training as this is something that is important to me and I will feel so much better for. 
Last week was the first time I lost weight since I started this plan and I was chuffed. It wasn’t a lot, but it was something. I also find it is now easier for me to say no to treats, especially crisps… chocolate is still a struggle.

Lynn Gets Fitter; Day One!


Hello my lovelies.

Most of you probably don’t know this but I have recently moved office from my nice little office beside the sea to this giant campus in town. While I will miss the sea and the random chats with the lad who sold me a zillion cans of Red Bull there are some definite perks to working in the city centre. The shops are an obvious one. But the fact it takes me half the time to get to work is a big one. The other is that I have now got access to a free pool. There is a gym too but I have decided I’m not going to spend money on a gym as I will never use it. I might attend some of the classes they offer though at the minute that is a lot further down the line.

When I was still in college I had a free gym and pool membership which I never used. This time round I have been optimistic and have set myself the goal of swimming for minimum of 30 minutes three times a week. Over the weekend I got some swimming gear and I was ready to go. 

I managed 5 minutes. Jesus it was harder than I thought. The pool is only a small one as well. All in all I did 8 laps, 4 front stroke and 4 back.

I was wrecked after and my legs were like jelly. What struck me though was that it was my legs and arms that got me and not my asthma, maybe it is just being out of action that is the problem. I’ll be going again on Thursday, maybe, and I will add a few more laps in. Stay tuned to see how I get on!
