M-Eyebrows | Beauty

I know ya’ll think the title of today’s post is genius.

There is nothing better than ending your bank holiday weekend with a cup of hot chocolate whilst writing a blog post. It was a good weekend too. I went to see the new Big Bang Comics store. I am a big fan of those lads and was delighted to see them move to a bigger unit. They needed it. I also went to see Antman AND Jurrasic World. Seriously good movies. Highly recommended.

Anyway, I just wanted to do a quick post on my eyebrows because I have gotten them done for the first time in a year and I feel like a new woman. I always go to Benefit’s Brow Bar in Arnotts in Dublin. I normally get a wax and tint. I go for the tint because there are days I might not wear make up, or when I am at the gym, and it is nice to have a bit of colour on my brows. One of the main reasons I consistently return to Benefit is because my natural brow shape is very similar to their signature brow arch so their process works well for me. Of course finding a brow artist is something that takes time and Benefit may not be the place to suit you so I recommend trying a few places and methods until you find one you are happy with,

I have also been using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Dipbrow pomade now I have tamed my brows. I have been trying to find a brand that does a pomade I could buy in Ireland and I had no luck. i had heard the ABH pomade was good though, if not a bit pricey. Elysian Brows on South William Street popped up in my searches as stocking the pomade so I went over to them for a chat and to get myself kitted out. I got the pomade in chocolate which is a medium to dark shade and also picked up the Anastasia Beverly Hills number 12 brush which is a dual ended eyebrow brush with an angled brush at one end and a spoolie at the other. Altogether I spent €55 on the two but I must say it is worth it. I have been using the product for almost two weeks and have barely made a dint in it and I use it every day. You need very little product as it gives a lot of coverage and also the brush is the perfect tool for application. An added bonus is that you can wash the brush and get a very long time out of it. Check out my before and after pictures below. You can check Elysian Brows out here.

I realise my brows may not have been entirely ‘on fleek’ today as I was in a rush, you can see them in better form on instagram, but you get an idea of the product anyway. I highly recommended.

On Wednesday I will be working on judging the Health and Wellbeing category for Blog Awards Ireland so instead of a post from me I will be featuring my next “how I am spending my summer” piece from Jade Rebecca over at https://edgyandelegant.wordpress.com/.

Have a great week guys!

Pay Day Haul

Hi Guys
I got paid during the week and in typical Lynn Jo fashion spent way too much money on things I don’t really think I needed.

I thought I would share my purchases with you. I only have intentions to post reviews of two of these so if you want to see anymore please do let me know!

As you can see I got some essentials, deodorant and dry shampoo but I also got a brush as the brush I was using was definitely more suited to my longer length hair than the shorter length I am rocking now.
I also got a 3 step system from Clinique to try as I wasn’t quite happy with my skin care anymore. I always use products for spot prone skin but the consultant said I should be using something more for oily skin which I am now trying. I will post a review on this in a number of weeks. I got a free gift of eye make up remover and mascara when I bought these.
I was starting to run out of concealer so I bought a Natural Collection green tinted concealer to try cancel out any redness in my skin and also a Revlon concealer in fair to conceal under my eyes and also to give a highlight effect.
I bought a Soap and Glory bronzer and highlighter in place of not being able to get a contour palette here. I am enjoying these as they give a very natural contour effect which is more suited to work. I also got a powder brush to apply my highlighter.
The final product I got was Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Browas I have been dying to try it out. I got a brush to us with it also. This is a product I have been lusting after for a long time and I will post on it during the week.
Have a great week guys!

My Favourite Setting Powder

*The product mentioned in this post was supplied by Escentual*

A long time ago I started a wonderful partnership with a company called Escentual. A girl called Emma who worked for Escentual would often send me new products to try. As a make up loving girl this was my dream. I LOVE seeing Emma’s name pop up in my inbox knowing I am about to get a lovely treat.

One treat Emma sent me however has stuck with me for the longest time. Whilst I have adored all the products I have been sent, there have been none that I have used constantly or for more than a few weeks.

That was until I received the Vichy Dermablend Setting Powder. I was nervous about using this product at first and I think the main reason I gave it a try was my MAC setting powder was running low and I wanted to make it last so I thought I would use this new powder on alternate days.

Now I use it daily and would not dream of using any other powder.

For those who don’t know Dermablend is a range of products aimed at those with skin imperfections, something I have made no secret of having. Whilst the powder is recommended for use with the Dermablend foundation Escentual and I agree that it can be used with any foundation and still received the desired effect.

What effect is that you might ask. Well first off it has a matte finish. Ideal when you have a nice shine to your skin as I do.

The powder is translucent meaning it doesn’t change the colour of your foundation, so you can use it no matter what colour you are wearing.

It doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin, something I am always fearful of with new make up.

It lasts, like ages. Both in the tub AND on your face. I sometimes forget to take my make up off before the gym, afterwards when my eyeliner is down my face my base still looks flawless. That and the pot has lasted me months and I am only half way through, and yes I use it EVERYDAY.

If you are in the market for a new setting powder I would definitely give Escentual a look and try it out. Especially with the (hopefully) warmer weather coming in if you want a light, natural looking, shine free setting powder.

There I am wearing the product itself. I’ve had some horrible spots on my chin for months which you can’t even see with the coverage the product provides.

The Power of Selling

So before I got my current job in a fancy insurance company I worked in retail. As one of my colleagues once said, “You could sell sand to an Arab”. You would presume this means that I am wise to the ways of sales assistants when I go shopping. But I really am not.
I wish this could be a post where I tell you how to make sure the sales assistants don’t make you spend money you don’t have. But I really am not the person to be asking about that.

Let me tell you how I got on when I went to the shops after work last Thursday.

My eyebrows have been in dire condition and I have had to reschedule three appointments for Benefit’s Brow Bar in Arnott’s for a number of reasons (only one was a hangover, promise).
Last week when filling in my now forest like eyebrows I decided enough was enough and I booked my appointment. After work I strolled on up there, I was a bit early so the nice sales man cleansed my face, in that five minutes he sold me an eye cream.

The eyebrow wizard (they really are wizards, have you seen my power brow) then tinted my eyebrows. But while the tint was sitting she said “Shall we do the lip for you today?” Now I always do my lip myself and knew it was due to be done so even though I was a bit offended I told her to go ahead. 15 minutes later and my brows and upper lip were fabulous.

If you have ever gotten your eyebrows done in Benefit you know they do a make upper afterwards. This takes about ten or fifteen minutes. In this time the sales man from  before sold me two more products I didn’t really need but I convinced myself I did.

I then went to pay and found what should have been €25 was actually €133, just thanks to them bigging up a few bits.
I left hanging my head in shame and went to pick up things I had planned to treat myself to from Urban Decay.

GUYS, I suck. How do you say no?! Do you think it might be because I used to have to do that that I feel somewhat bad for them.

I really have a spending problem…

Easter Beauty Box Swap

Hey Guys!
I’ve been enjoying my treats for over a week now and I felt it was finally time to share the goodies the lovely Helena got me with you all. You can find Helena over here by the way.
Helena was so good and absolutely spoiled me. I don’t feel what I got her even comes close to the quality of what she got me. One of the joys of Sterling -vs- Euro I guess.
There is nothing I like more than getting parcels and packages in boxes, full of stuffing. Someone must have told Helena because that is exactly what she sent me. She also included a lovely note highlighting why she got me everything she did. I absolutely loved this as I so often wonder why people get me the things they get me.
Amidst all the stuffing and cute fluffy little Easter chickies I found five fabulous surprises (and let us not forget my two edible surprises also).

Helena and I had a little chat before the exchange so we could each get an idea of the others tastes before going shopping for each other.
Helena really listened to what I told her regarding beauty products I liked or had been having a wee nose at lately in order to test them out.
First of all she got me some nude lippies as I have been dying to try them out and find one to suit me. She sent me some darker nude colours which I was very happy with as I don’t think the peachier nude shades suit me very much.
Helena got me two lipsticks and one lipgloss.

The lipgloss, Collection’s Cream Puff in Cotton Candy, has become quite a permanent feature in my make up bag. I have been using it in either of three ways:
– on it’s own
– over lip liner
– over either of the two lipsticks

As for the other two lipsticks, I have had mixed reactions to them both.
The first lipstick was Smitten from Accessorize. I really liked the packaging for this lipstick. However the stick did break which leads me to believe the formula isn’t the strongest, although we do have to remember that this came in a package from England so this may have had some effect on it.
The second lipstick was from the Little Mix collection for Collection and is Jade’s Lipstick. I’ll admit I haven’t used this lipstick all too much but I do love the red-brown shade and the formula is very non sticky which I like.
Helena also included two pastel coloured nail polishes for me as I have been trying to get into wearing pastel shades for summer.

The first shade Helena sent me was from Revlon and was the shade minted. Mint green seems to be my colour for summer so I was chuffed to get a mint green nail polish to match everything else I have, well mainly my sunglasses.  Helena said she loved the formula and I must say I have to agree, although I did find the formula a bit thin so I have been using three coats as opposed to the recommended two. However paired with my Sally Hansen top coat/strengthener it has some serious staying power.

The second nail polish Helena gifted me was a Sally Hansen Sugar Coat textured polish in Sweetie. I had never used a textured polish before so I was a bit skeptical and now I have used one I find that I still am. I loved the bright yellow shade of the polish, it was perfect for Easter. But now I find that any make up, for example eyeshadow, had gotten caught in the crooks of the texture while I was asleep or out and about and no amount of washing would clean it. You may suggest that I wear a darker colour of polish but I feel the texturised effect would be waster on a darker colour and not as noticable.
Helena also threw in some super cute choccies which I still have saved as I took so long to take the photos for this post.

Thank you so much Helena for spoiling me I hope you enjoyed your treats.
Although it is a few days late I will be uploading my Bloggers Do It Better post tomorrow before I head to London for the weekend to see McBusted. I’m sorry it has taken so long but it has been a busy time.
I uploaded a new YouTube video today which some of you may like. You can check it out below.

The New Clerys.

Having worked in Clerys for the past five years I have earned quite a few luxuries.
One such luxury was being told by Jessica that mine and my mum’s names were on the list for the Clerys VIP friends and family night before the media and public were allowed in the store. One luxury I lost the day I left was my staff discount:(
I was in work so I only got there about 7pm just before they closed at 8 and whilst my mum wanted to get a jacket it was nice to have a wee look about.
I did take some pictures, they are really bad though because I was afraid I’d get in trouble having my phone out taking photos… then I remembered, I don’t work there anymore.
We went in a side door as the main doors weren’t being used yet. There was a red carpet and a guest list. That was definitely a nice touch.
My first impression of the inside was that it was lovely. But I don’t like it because it’s not the old Clerys. The store is completely open plan and all very white and clean an modern. At times it reminded me a bit of Harrods.
I’m sure a lot of people will agree with me when I say it’s not the same. I kind of found it a bit annoying that I could never tell which department I was in, it reminded me of House of Fraser in Dundrum too much and that was a feature I hated. I grew up in Clerys and while I love the store now and think it is gorgeous. It isn’t home…
As someone who used to work there though I wasn’t happy. First off not one single staff member acknowledged me. Yes the people I knew there said hi. But not one staff member in a department I was shopping in, who did not know me, asked if we needed a hand or even said hi. We were in one department and my mum was saying to see if there was a different side in a coat and two staff members stood with their backs to us about a metre away and carried on their conversation ignoring us. Saying that I asked a girl in Elverys for a size in something and her and the male sales assistant were super helpful to us and we bought from them. See customer service works. I definitely feel that Clerys needs to do some serious customer training over the next few weeks because they lost all their best staff when they closed and their new staff haven’t a clue. They were all rude. While my mum was paying for her last purchase three sales assistants pushed past her to start a chat with the guy serving her and have cakes with him, ignoring us. Not to mention he didn’t have a great bedside manner. Bit sad when the store hasn’t even fully opened yet. Customers always told me the reason they love Clerys was the staff and the service. I don’t think many people will be saying that from now on.
I was also a bit disappointed to see the store still stocking the brand I used to work for but without it as a concession or without keeping any of us on. That and there were more new faces than old faces and bar an interview for a concession I applied for in July that I chose not to attend, not once was I contacted for a position there even though it was known I was seeking work. Poor form. Also there were very few sales assistants around. Get more of a staff presence Clerys.
I’m glad I left to be honest. It’s not the same store and I don’t think I’d like to work there now only for the friendships I have there. But I can always go in to visit them. That isn’t lost, but I think I will be praying to be made permanent in the Kilkenny store after Christmas. I love it there.
If you do want to nose around Clerys, some concessions have 20% off. The store opens this Thursday, November 21st, with events from 10am and the official opening at 11am. Bressie will be there.
All my love,

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush | Review

When I was in London I had one thing on my mind. I wanted to buy a Real Techniques brush. I’d heard everyone raving about them and they had actually been recommended to me. Bar my egg shaped blendy thingy, which I lost AGES ago, I had yet to find a brush that applied my foundation in a way I really liked. Flat foundation brushes just left stroke marks and the stippling brush I was using just wasn’t for me.
I didn’t actually find the brush in London, they were all sold out, but I did get one in the Boots beside work. I have been converted and I definitely think I will be expanding my collection. First of all the brushes are such good quality. Just looking at them you can tell they will last. They don’t seem as breakable as some of the wooden handled brushes. They are also really comfortable to hold, I’ve noticed now I take a lot more time doing my base since I got the brush because I don’t mind holding it and putting decent effort into it now. The brush is so soft but sturdy at the same time, even on my first use no bristles came out and I can see it lasting even after repeated use.
As for using the brush it really is a godsend. I know stippling brushes were always said to make you look like you were airbrushed or something but this brush really does. It makes my make up look quite natural. I like that I can properly buff my foundation into my skin rather than just laying it on top of my skin. It just gives it a better finish.
Verdict: Very satisfied.
I will have another post for you all on Friday but I haven’t quite decided what I want it to be yet as yet but stay tuned.
I went out last night with my best friends for Hallowe’en and Ciara did all our faces up. How awesome do we look? I think I make a brilliant cat don’t you? I don’t condone irresponsible alcohol use but I am very hungover now and need junk food. Bring me some please.
Finally, if you haven’t already seen it, check out Tom from McFly’s latest YouTube upload. How cute is that?
Congrats you guys!
Any suggestions for new YouTube videos?

The Great Gatsby | Cousin Date

Okay so crisis averted. I have a laptop whilst I figure out what to do about snapping my Macbook Pro charger. Really I shouldn’t invest another near €100 in a charger if I am planning on getting  a new Macbook. Only thing is my Macbook is totally broken but I can’t afford a new one. UGH I need help. Or a financial backer. I’d love an Ultrabook but seriously a new Macbook would make me happy and mean I could keep applying for jobs and blogging of course.
ANYWAY, while I figure all that out I do have a temporary set up with my Dad’s laptop so we can all stay in touch and on top of things.

Anyway like my charity shopping post this has been sitting in my draft pile for a while. It’s something I want to write about but the main focus of this post is not the movie we saw but the circumstances we saw them under are what I am chatting about because I recommend them to everyone!

This particular screening of The Great Gatsby was in Cineworld Dublin and was on a few weeks after The Great Gatsby finished showing in the cinema. The night they run is called Take 2 Thursdays. Basically they are bringing back a number of the biggest movies of the year so you can catch them again. The price you pay for this privilege is €12, for this you get two tickets, two small drinks and a regular popcorn. And you get to see a movie you may have missed on the big screen.

The next movie they have on offer is The Heat on the 17th of October.
You can check out their site here.

If ever you were looking for a cheap night out with someone special or some friends then this is the way to do it.
See you all tomorrow,
Lynn Jo xox
PS. Check out my makeup today, I really like it! I am also rocking a cute new outfit. I might post that all for you at some point so you can see who I am channeling. ALSO don’t forget to enter my giveaway here.
