Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice | Review

Image: Batman News

Well it is finally here. Three years after the release of Man of Steel we have the next installment in the DC Universe. This time, not only do we get to see more of Superman, but we also get our first look at a new Batman. An older Batman. We have had so many versions of Batman in his earlier years, when Bruce Wayne really lives up to his playboy persona. We also have the young Bruce Wayne brilliantly portrayed in Gotham. But now it is so refreshing to have something different. A new take on the character where we finally see him having undergone some of the further hardships avid Batman readers will know Batman experiences throughout his life.
Warner Bros gave me the amazing opportunity to attend a press screening before the movie was released to the general public, and have the opportunity to review it for you lovely folk.
I would love to post a really in depth, blow by blow account of the movie, but I’d rather keep it spoiler free. Instead I am going to discuss my thoughts on how the movie sets up the wider DCU and also some of the performances from the newer characters in the movie. I will also try and answer the question everyone has been asking me of “Do I think it’s worth it?”(the hype). As much as I can without being a complete fan girl. I will also look at special effects etc. Something I am really looking forward to seeing if they have been improved, because I had serious issues with the flying effect in Man of Steel. I have never read The Dark Knight Returns so I can’t comment on the comparison between the graphic novel and this movie. But if you quickly glance over the Wikipedia page for the novel you can easily draw comparisons between the plot and the content from the Dawn of Justice trailers.
Okay without further ado; here is what I thought of the movie: (beware, now I have seen it it does contain mild spoilers)
The movie is genuinely amazing. I expected to be let down and for it all to be the content of the trailer, but no, it was something else. However I will say that it did all seem very familiar, which  may have been as a result of the trailer but perhaps as a result of my  familiarity with the characters from various shows, films etc. That and the fact the movie was like a session playing Injustice: Gods Among Us.

Okay so let me start with my pet peeve of Superman’s flying effects. I feel like they have definitely been improved on, especially when Superman takes off initially. I was SO impressed with the effects used on Wonder Woman in battle, and the music accompanying her. I loved the sound track in general, but when Diana hit the scene the music took on a different style and it was really suited to the big boss battle, as I like to call it.

From the get go the movie is really intense. They get the Batman, quintessential, origin story out of the way fairly sharpish (we must remember that they have to do it, this is a new Batman). I think the way it was done this time around was really well handled and eased into the story so easily,  with both the death of the Waynes and the bats in the well incident being handled really beautifully. At the start the continuity was a bit weird to follow, but basically we find ourselves watching the Man of Steel finale and off the plot of this movie goes.

I was disappointed with two things in the movie. There wasn’t a WHOLE lot of Bat action. Yeah it was there but not as much as other reincarnations. It was very much based around Bruce Wayne. We know Batman has a few more outings down the line, so I am sure we will get our dose of him soon enough. I do get the impression though that Bruce isn’t going out as Batman as often as he may have, and I am sure that can be picked up in the movie. I find that this ties in with the whole ‘older Batman’ angle and naturally will change following the movie. The other disappointment I had was with the lack of answers. Certain questions are raised from the footage in the trailers and they remain unanswered in this film. I am sure they will be answered in time… why else would they set it up. I just wonder which DCU movie will answer the question. My bets are on Suicide Squad.

I do have some other notes on a page but I don’t think they are for a review. They are just questions I want to discuss. If you too want to discuss do let me know.

With regard the acting, it was so good. Some of these characters I would have limited interaction with when I read my comics but you can just tell the actors have them sussed. I think Ben does a wonderful job as Bruce Wayne, with minimal stereotypical Bruce Wayne interaction. We see very little of the Billionaire playboy, but you can see him shift from weary, older man, to that, and back so easily. I would love to see more Bat interaction. But I have so much faith in Affleck to capture this role. I really think people need to bear in mind he is playing a Batman much older than Christian Bale’s Batman, so can comparison’s really be drawn. Jesse Eisenberg and Gal Gadot really gelled naturally to their characters and have their personalities nailed. I know a lot of people questioned Gal’s suitability for the role, but toward the end you can really see her suitability for the part. Jesse as Lex, the descent into mad villian is so gently portrayed until it hits you suddenly. But then it all makes sense.

I don’t think this movie was ever meant to be a Batman, or a Superman, movie. I think the sole purpose of this movie was to open up the whole DCU and it does it perfectly. We all know the three founding member’s of the Justice League, who are the three stars of this film. We do also get really nice quick sneak peeks at three other members of the league. Which leads so perfectly to the end of the movie, and that is how the follow ons are set up. The solo Wonder Woman is obviously set up from this too. One movie that wasn’t really set up was Suicide Squad. There were two moments that could have been set ups, but essentially you would not anticipate that that was the next movie in the series. You would expect it to be Wonder Woman, so perhaps the Squad is a side piece and not crucial to the plot or timeline of the DCU.

The ending made the movie for me. Although I was SO let down to see who Scoot McNairy and his green socks finally played.

I will leave it there, I don’t want to ruin the whole thing for everyone. If you do have the opportunity to, see the movie in IMAX 3D. The screening I went to was 2D, but the movie was filmed for IMAX and you can see the moments where 3D would look amazing. I look forward to seeing that when the movie is on general release. If you see the movie please give me your thoughts below.

From Director Zack Snyder comes Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice starring Oscar winner Ben Affleck as Batman/Bruce Wayne and Henry Cavill as Superman/Clark Kent in the characters’ first big screen pairing.
The film also stars Oscar nominees Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Diane Lane as Martha Kent and Laurence Fishburne as Perry White; Oscar winners Jeremy Irons as Alfred, and Holly Hunter as Senator Finch; and Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman/Diana Prince.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Cert 12A, will be released in Ireland in 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D on March 25th.

Pay Day Haul

Hi Guys
I got paid during the week and in typical Lynn Jo fashion spent way too much money on things I don’t really think I needed.

I thought I would share my purchases with you. I only have intentions to post reviews of two of these so if you want to see anymore please do let me know!

As you can see I got some essentials, deodorant and dry shampoo but I also got a brush as the brush I was using was definitely more suited to my longer length hair than the shorter length I am rocking now.
I also got a 3 step system from Clinique to try as I wasn’t quite happy with my skin care anymore. I always use products for spot prone skin but the consultant said I should be using something more for oily skin which I am now trying. I will post a review on this in a number of weeks. I got a free gift of eye make up remover and mascara when I bought these.
I was starting to run out of concealer so I bought a Natural Collection green tinted concealer to try cancel out any redness in my skin and also a Revlon concealer in fair to conceal under my eyes and also to give a highlight effect.
I bought a Soap and Glory bronzer and highlighter in place of not being able to get a contour palette here. I am enjoying these as they give a very natural contour effect which is more suited to work. I also got a powder brush to apply my highlighter.
The final product I got was Anastasia Beverly Hills Dip Browas I have been dying to try it out. I got a brush to us with it also. This is a product I have been lusting after for a long time and I will post on it during the week.
Have a great week guys!

My New Glasses

*The product in this post was supplied by Specspost*

So I have been meaning to write this post for ages. The reason I haven’t written it is because I wanted to get a good photo of me wearing the glasses, but I have never gotten around to it so I am writing the post anyway.

This will be a short post as there is not a lot I have to say when it comes to the process of ordering from Specspost. To be honest the part that took longest was me getting back to them with my prescription as I forgot to get it (notice a trend here). When I contacted Specspost to let them know I was interested in trying some of their products they were very apologetic to me. They had a lot of people interested and whilst they would love to send me items it could be a good few days before I got them due to their backlog. I was astounded when they turned up at my door a before the end of the week.

Then the fun began. I did a little fashion show with Danny trying on all my various pairs of glasses. However, as is normal when you shop online, not all of the pairs were to my liking. However there was one pair I just fell head over heels with. So I posted my 4 pairs of glasses back to the Team at Specspost and told them which pair I wanted and that I would get my prescription and be in touch. It took me about two weeks to get my prescription but when I did I got my glasses in less than a week.

That is probably my favourite feature of Specspost. That they do home trails where you let them know which pairs you would like to try, you pay a fully refundable deposit and then they send the glasses out to your house. You choose which pairs you want and send them back, within ten days you should have the glasses with your prescription in them back on your desk.

I also find Specspost great for getting a few spare pairs of glasses to have at home.

Here are the pair I chose, which I live in at work:

They are the “Pink Retro Cats Eye” model and can be found here.

What do you guys think of buying glasses online? I am thinking of getting my sunglasses for the year from the site. Opinions? Would you home trial the glasses or would you buy and hope for the best OR would you stick to going to a high street store?

Until next time.

June: Tried & Tested

Hey Guys!
I know, I know. It’s been a while. But believe me when I say I have been struggling going from not working and working three to four days a week to working  a roper adult job. It’s been a few months now and I think I have finally gotten into a routine and am getting back into my favourite past times: READING AND BLOGGING.
I have also gotten back into my healthy living so I am very happy with that. It is amazing how much better you can feel if you cut the shit out of your daily routine. Don’t worry though. I’m not cutting myself off completely. As I write this I am snacking away on some Watermelon Chunks… They are v. yummy.

Today is the first installment of a new monthly feature I hope to run, called Tried and Tested. Whilst I am not very adventurous I do love to try new things, so this is my monthly feature to let you know how I get on. My June feature is quite short, but you can expect a much longer one in a few weeks for July.

This month I have been trying out a Nourish Starter Kit for combination skin which was sent to my by The Liv House. I have been using these products for about two, almost three weeks now and I have to say the difference in my skin has been amazing. I think I have finally found products suited to my terrible skin. The ingredients are organic, in fact the bottles list a percentage of how organic the creams are and they are all past 80% some being 97% which is always good to hear. They are also full of vitamins and antioxidants which have been both regulating and oxygenating my skin. My skin has been glowing since I started using the products and make up has looked flawless on my skin, meaning I am getting the best value out of my make up. I stopped using the Kit to test out a new moisturiser, which is great don’t get me wrong, but I will be straight back to my Nourish Kit ASAP. I need that healthy glowy skin again. It was so good that whilst I was in Manchester (more about that in this weekend’s post) I was able to go out with virtually no make up on. Just some concealer for my spots, mascara and eyebrow gel. It was a delight to say the least, especially on those hot days.

I have also been trying to eat breakfast more. Whether it was a bowl of cereal or a yoghurt. This, teamed with some nuts or a cereal bar, has kept me going until lunch time and has given me so much energy. I also have made it a habit so I’ll be keeping this up no doubt.

SWIMMING, I tried getting back into swimming. While I have been a bit bad with it over the past two weeks due to being away. I went back yesterday and went at least twice every other week. I don’t know if it has done me much good but it makes me feel like I’ve made an effort so that is good enough for me.

That’s all I have for you folks.

I’ll post again on Saturday to tell you about my trip to the english countryside.

Until then,
I’m off to eat my Watermelon Chunks and watch True Blood and Pretty Little Liars.

La Roche Posay Rosaliac CC Creme | Review

It’s been a well known fact that lately I have been having a lot of trouble with my skin. Between spots and my complexion it’s the one thing I have yet to find a viable solution for. I spend a fortune on skincare and foundations and still have yet to settle for one I like. To be honest I’m sure ya’ll are sick of me talking about it.
The lovely people over at Escentual got in touch with me recently to try out and review a product on their behalf. Quite a few companies have been in contact with me lately and not amounted to much so I was quite afraid this could turn out to be the same. I have to say the lovely Emma was a pleasure to deal with. Everything was arranged in such a quick efficient manner and I had the product within days.
I just realised I haven’t mentioned what product they hooked me up with (bar in the title) but I was really damn excited to try it out. I use La Roche Posay products when I can, they are the only products that really improve my skin, or have any effect on it to be honest. I have tried pretty much everything but never a CC creme. They have such high promises, cover and correct is a pretty big promise, and one I fear that can’t be kept. This particular CC creme is from the Rosaliac range of La Roche Posay products though.

For those of you who don’t know Rosaliac is La Roche Posay’s range of products which combat redness in your skin. Because my skin is so sensitive my cheeks are nearly always ROARING red. Especially after I cleanse my face. This has become a bit of a problem for me because I have yet to find a foundation that combats the redness without being utterly caked on to my face. I like being able to see my freckles but no make up that lets that happen camouflages the redness of my skin. The Rosaliac CC creme comes in a universal shade and whilst that may seem a bit daunting or like an empty promise it seems to be just that. I put the product on my skin and it looked SO good. It gave me the coverage I needed to hide any redness but it was so light and natural that you could still see my freckles and it looked like I had very little make up on. This isn’t a look I thought I would go for but I have been wearing it to work and such and it has been so nice. That and my face has felt make up free and the air could get at it which was even better.

Throughout the course of trying this product I had a few events/nights out on so I did want more coverage than the CC creme  offered me. On these occasions I used the creme as a base for my make up. Although they say the creme should replace your skincare/foundation I found that it worked just as well as a base. It really is an ideal dual product. Especially as you use so little when applying it. You would get AGES out of the bottle. And the best bit, because it is La Roche Posay it doesn’t affect my sensitive skin at all. PERFECT!!

I want to say a big thank you to Emma over at Escentual for sorting me out with this product. As great as it was to get involved and review something for a company, it was so nice to get to review (and keep) a product that works for my skin and actually helps me on my quest to find the perfect foundation.
Escentual is a one stop shop for all your beauty needs, you can check them out HERE!

Wearing the CC creme with some powder on top.

My next post is going to be up tomorrow and is on my Easter Beauty Box that I got from the lovely Helena 😀

Busy, busy

I have been working in my new job for two months now and I still haven’t gotten used to the routine of it all. The getting up early and everything is no problem it’s just the evenings. I am not using them the way I should. Really need to start making a better effort to use them for something because I really am finding myself falling behind on the blog and my YouTube but I have decided that from tomorrow that is all stopping and I am getting back into being a productive peach.

I have been really busy though this week. My lack of being online and posting wasn’t due to me sitting at home, on my arse, doing nothing. I was actually out and about at events socialising and shtuff.
Thursday evening was the first of my nights out. I headed out to the party they were having to celebrate their success, which is much deserved. I spent the night hanging out with fellow blogger and YouTuber Hannah, the lads from Shifts and a few other friends. I must say the girls know how to throw a party, they provided food and drinks and gave away some killer prizes and goodie bags. The perks of the night though had to be the photobooth and mini cupcakes, I NEED the recipe for that icing. Thanks so much to for inviting me and showing us all such a fab night. I can’t see where they take the site in the future. For those of you that don’t know, and how could you not, is ‘The website for Irish women” and is a great place to get your celeb goss and beauty fix. They always keep their twitter and app updated so you are never out of touch. Don’t worry though guys, they also have for the men.

Then on Saturday my delectably accented friend Danny and I went to see the Raglans perform. The lovely folks over at MCD hooked me up with some guestlist spots and CD’s and I must say it was fab to see the lads take center stage at their album launch show. I love how modest they all were right down to them admitting that it was the first time they had ever left the stage during a set then come back to belt out the last few tunes. It was also lovely to see all their parents there at the front of stage giving it socks. I always find that Raglans gigs have a real homely, friendly feel to them and last night was no different. I haven’t seen the lads play in a while and the difference in their stage presence and how they present themselves has improved tenfold since I last saw them live. Good job boys.

I wrapped up my weekend by going to see my favourite arrangement of organs, aka my best friend Ciara who was home from Belfast for a night. The only downside to the weekend was that I missed the Kate’s Party album launch because it was at the same time as Raglans but I will definitely be catching their next show.

That’s about all I got up to. Going to be staying in for the next few weeks if I’m being honest. London is only a few weeks away and I want to keep all my money and energy for it. I can’t wait.
I have a couple of reviews coming up on the blog over the next week or two. Don’t forget you can enter to win a copy of Raglans album here. The competition ends a week from today.

Here are a few pictures from the weekend for you. Have a lovely Mummy’s day folks.

Christmas Time

Merry Christmas EVERYONE.
So I’ve just decided I’m going to do a nice wee reflection post on the past year and that.
But first let me start by wishing you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope you all have a ball and are spoilt and got exactly what you wished for. I also hope 2014 brings everything you want and hope for and more.
2013 wasn’t a great year for me for the most part in a lot of aspects. Things went wrong and everything got a bit shit. Then it all started to get better and things turned around.
2014 may get off to a bad start because I will be finishing up in the best job I’ve ever had. But that’s okay. It can only go up from there.
I’ve had an amazing year and met some of my favourite people in this time. There are four girls who have been there for me during everything and kept me on the straight and narrow as well as figuring out what I wanted to do in life. When the people I thought were my friends weren’t there these girls were. They showed me nights out, good times in work, nice nights out at concerts and lovely motivational talks. They are my cousin, my class mate, my work mate and my goth gal. Without them 2013 wouldn’t have ended on such a high and I am so glad to have them in my life.

Next year is gonna be my year.

Indie Spice | Review

Last week was my unofficial work party, the big one is in January, and we went out for a lovely meal in Swords.
The ladies of the store chose to go to Indie Spice for dinner, an Indian restaurant in Swords Village. Now I have never, ever had Indian food before and you do hear stories of Indian food going straight through people so I was quite nervous. I was also kinda scared that I  wouldn’t know what to get to eat. They had the menu in work a few days before hand so we could have a wee look at it so that wasn’t too bad. I’d been shopping with my mum the day before and she bought Tikka Masala for us to have during the week so I went with that.
When we got there it turned out we had a different menu in work than the one we were paying for. So we requested that menu and boy was there much more choice on it. I just went for Onion Bhajee as my started and then my Tikka Masala. It was actually so nice. Onion Bhajees in my opinion are nice crispy onions and they were so delish. As for the Tikka Massala, it was sooooo good but I just couldn’t finish it because I was so hungry when I got to the restaurant and filled up on poppadoms (which were so good). When we were served our meal we got some potatoes and spinach which were a nice addition as well as the basmati pilau rice. The dessert options were Baileys cheesecake or vanilla ice cream. I don’t like cheesecake so I went for the ice cream which was yummy. Why is it ice cream in a restaurant is always better than anything you buy in the shops? Our ice cream had a long stalk of brown spaghetti sticking out of it… now that I didn’t quite understand.
Some of the ladies got Baileys or Vodka after the meal. I kinda tuned out for that bit but I think it may have been complimentary.
But anyway all that was €29.95,
I also had a Long Island Iced Tea which cost me €7.95.
I must say it’s a long time since I’ve ever been at a restaurant where the staff were so polite and obliging AND the food being so good at the same time. I’m already looking forward to going back.
What restaurants have you been to that you suprisingly loved?
Let me know in the comments.
All my love,
Lynn Jo xox

A very WICKED evening | Review

So tonight I had the pleasure of seeing something I have always wanted to see, and that was Wicked the musical.
My mum and I got the tickets a long time ago and I have literally been counting down the days until today and all I can say is I was not disappointed.
First let me congratulate the stars of the show on an amazing opening night. I really don’t think it could have gone any better for them.
I have never seen Wicked before so I had no idea of the story or it’s plot line. Also as I had never seen it before I could not be disappointed.
I saw Phantom of the Opera before and always thought it was the best show I would see and that nothing would top it. Wicked definitely gives it serious competition.
The story of Wicked was so enjoyable, especially for a younger person, it is something that definitely appeals to a younger age group in a chick flick way. I was actually shocked by the number of kids there but you can’t deny the show was really a family show.
I thought the performances tonight where some of the strongest I’ve seen in a musical. Nikki Davis-Jones who played Elphaba, aka the Wicked Witch, was definitely one of the strongest performances I have ever seen in a musical. Her performance strengthened as the show progressed, whether that was part of the role or her getting more comfortable I am not sure but boy that girl has some voice and is definitely made for the stage. We also had some eye candy thanks to Liam Doyle who played dreamboat Fiyero.
The stage was SUBLIME. If you thought the Phantom of the Opera stage was good, then this is better. They had the bubble for the Good Witch. They had the Wizard’s robotic head, flying monkeys and the Emerald City, oh the Emerald City. The stage for that would make you think you were there for real.
The costumes for the Emerald City scenes were something you could only imagine in your dreams. How the ensemble danced in them I will never know.

Seriously I would recommend that everyone goes to see Wicked whilst it’s in Ireland. they are here until January and it is definitely worth seeing. It is a night you will never forget.
I now need to try get tickets to see Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. If anyone can hook me up with tickets please do.
All my love,
Lynn Jo xox

Real Techniques Expert Face Brush | Review

When I was in London I had one thing on my mind. I wanted to buy a Real Techniques brush. I’d heard everyone raving about them and they had actually been recommended to me. Bar my egg shaped blendy thingy, which I lost AGES ago, I had yet to find a brush that applied my foundation in a way I really liked. Flat foundation brushes just left stroke marks and the stippling brush I was using just wasn’t for me.
I didn’t actually find the brush in London, they were all sold out, but I did get one in the Boots beside work. I have been converted and I definitely think I will be expanding my collection. First of all the brushes are such good quality. Just looking at them you can tell they will last. They don’t seem as breakable as some of the wooden handled brushes. They are also really comfortable to hold, I’ve noticed now I take a lot more time doing my base since I got the brush because I don’t mind holding it and putting decent effort into it now. The brush is so soft but sturdy at the same time, even on my first use no bristles came out and I can see it lasting even after repeated use.
As for using the brush it really is a godsend. I know stippling brushes were always said to make you look like you were airbrushed or something but this brush really does. It makes my make up look quite natural. I like that I can properly buff my foundation into my skin rather than just laying it on top of my skin. It just gives it a better finish.
Verdict: Very satisfied.
I will have another post for you all on Friday but I haven’t quite decided what I want it to be yet as yet but stay tuned.
I went out last night with my best friends for Hallowe’en and Ciara did all our faces up. How awesome do we look? I think I make a brilliant cat don’t you? I don’t condone irresponsible alcohol use but I am very hungover now and need junk food. Bring me some please.
Finally, if you haven’t already seen it, check out Tom from McFly’s latest YouTube upload. How cute is that?
Congrats you guys!
Any suggestions for new YouTube videos?

All My Love,

Lynn Jo xox
